Sunglasses For Fishing:
One of the most important, useful items to wear when out on the water is sunglasses. Sunglasses provide the angler with protection for their eyes from the hot sun, and provide many benefits for fishing itself. Having a good pair of sunglasses could be the difference in having a good day of fishing, and a day without many catches.\
Why Are Sunglasses Important?:
When out fishing during the summer, sunglasses are important for multiple reasons. The first, most important reason, is to protect the anglers’ eyes. The UV rays from the sun can cause pain, and damage to the eyes if not protected. In more serious cases worse injuries have occurred such as partial blindness and even complete blindness. It is crucial to keep one of the most important parts of your body protected, and healthy when you’re enjoying your time on the water.
What To Look For When Purchasing Glasses:
When looking for sunglasses to buy, again, there are many factors that should ultimately lead to your decision. Sunglasses come in many different forms, also known as their frame. Some have more slim and slender frames, while others possess a bulkier and thicker frame. Comfortability and preference are the leading factors to deciding which frames are proper for the angler.
Did you know that sunglasses, similar to clothing, also have different UV protection statistics? Not all sunglasses provide the same effectiveness to protecting your eyes from the sun. When purchasing sunglasses, you should look for a pair that entails 100% protection against both UVA and UVB. These are the two most dangerous forms of UV light. You can also look for a pair that has a UV protection rating of 400, also providing 100% protection.
Arguably the most important attribute when buying sunglasses for fishing, is making sure the lenses are polarized. Polarized lenses reduce the glare and reflection of light that reaches the eye, allowing for clearer and sharper vision. This reduces the glare and reflection on the surface of the water, allowing the angler to see further under the surface at a much higher clarity.
Did you know that different color lenses provide different benefits for fishing?
There are many different lens colors and each has benefits to best fit an individual’s needs and wants when exploring the water.
Blue/Green Mirrored Lenses: Blue mirror lenses reflect light that try to enter from many different angles. Blue mirror lenses are often times used by anglers fishing in deeper waters, often offshore. Green mirror lenses are often used inshore when the angler is engaging in sight fishing. The green mirror helps clear up the brown, murky water, while also enhancing green colors allowing the angler to see much clearer in the dirty waters, and ultimately see those fish they are targeting.
Copper/Brown Lenses: Copper and brown lenses offer similar functionalities out on the water. These lenses are often known as “high contrast lenses”. These lenses help to contrast colors in the water, and are often used inshore as well. Due to the contrast of colors, this allows anglers to better identify things in the water, and get a clearer vision of what is around them. These are most commonly used in shallow waters, or flats.
Neutral Lenses: Neutral lenses, often coming in the color gray, provide a mix of functionalities. Neutral lenses provide a little of everything, but don’t necessarily excel in specific situations like other lenses may. These are a fine option for anyone who needs polarized glasses and likes to fish different situations and conditions.
